Reba McEntire is coming back to the small screen in a very big way.
The country music superstar has been announced as the new judge for NBC’s “The Voice.”
She will join John Legend, Niall Horan and Gwen Stefani for season 24 of the multiple Emmy-winning singing competition.
The “Fancy” singer most recently took on the role of mega mentor on “The Voice’s” current season, and will officially take over Blake Shelton’s red chair in the fall. The country crooner announced he would be leaving after serving as a coach for 23 seasons.
Known for such chart-topping country hits as “Consider Me Gone,” “How Was I to Know” and “Somebody,” McEntire previously served as Battle Advisor to Team Blake during the show’s inaugural season in 2011.
The 68-year-old Oklahoma native previously revealed that she was originally asked to coach the show when producers were looking to bring it to American audiences.
“I got [a look at] the Holland version of ‘The Voice.’ They sent it to me and I said, ‘I can’t see me doing that,’” she told Entertainment Tonight about turning down the role.
McEntire, who headlined her own sitcom for six seasons in the early aughts, explained that she was a “gypsy at heart” and didn’t want to be attached to one project in one place for a long time.
As an actress, she won raves on Broadway in the 2001 “Annie Get Your Gun” revival and has also starred in the TV series “Malibu Country” and, most recently, ABC’s “Big Sky.”
According to Deadline, “The Voice” has ranked as the No. 1 alternative series in total viewers for four consecutive seasons.
