Former President Donald Trump raged that he has no clue who E. Jean Carroll — even is after a federal jury found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation and ordered he pay her $5 million in damages.
“I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHO THIS WOMAN IS,” he posted on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday shortly after the verdict was announced in Manhattan. “THIS VERDICT IS A DISGRACE – A CONTINUATION OF THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME!”
“VERY UNFAIR TRIAL!” he later said.
Carroll, 79, claimed in a 2019 suit that Trump, 76, had raped her in a fitting room at a New York City department store, most likely in 1996 — which the jury rejected. He was, however, found liable for sexual abuse.
Jurors also found in favor of Carroll on her claim that the ex-president defamed her in a lengthy Oct. 12, 2022, Truth Social post claiming her accusations were a “hoax.”
The verdict concludes eight days of trial over the course of three weeks. During the trial, the jury heard testimony from 11 witnesses — including Carroll — as well as two other women who accused Trump of sexual assault.
Carroll took the witness stand for three days, testifying how she ran into Trump at Bergdorf Goodman near Trump Tower.
She said she agreed to help the real estate mogul find a gift for a woman as the two flirted and joked while walking around the store.
Trump then led her into a fitting room, where she claimed he pinned her against the wall and bumped her head twice during what she called a “fight.”
There, he penetrated her with his fingers and later with his penis, she claimed during the emotional testimony. She told the court she could “still feel the pain,” of his fingers inside her.
Trump, who is running for president a third time, did not attend the trial but the jury saw clips of his video deposition. The ex-president did not call any witnesses or present any evidence.
In a statement, Trump’s campaign blasted Carroll’s claims as “totally made-up.”
“The Democratic Party’s never-ending witch-hunt of President Trump hit a new low today. In jurisdictions wholly controlled by the Democratic Party our nation’s justice system is now compromised by extremist left-wing politics,” the Trump team said. “We have allowed false and totally made-up claims from troubled individuals to interfere with our elections, doing great damage.
“Make no mistake, this entire bogus case is a political endeavor targeting President Trump because he is now an overwhelming front-runner to be once again elected President of the United States,” his campaign said.
