El Paso police officials on Monday disclosed the name of a 27-year-old man in a car who died after being shot early Saturday in a Northeast neighborhood.
Daniel Antonio Mergil had a gunshot wound when he was found in a white 2012 Chevrolet Malibu that had crashed into a tree and ended up on rock landscaping in the front yard of a home in front of North Desert Park, police said.
Mergil died at a hospital after the crashed car was found at 3:11 a.m. Saturday in the 5900 block of Ameen Drive, police said. Mergil was a resident of the Northeast.
The death in under investigation by homicide detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit. Police officials described the case as the fifth murder of 2023.
