The 2023 Daytime Emmy Award nominations were officially announced on Wednesday, with “General Hospital” leading the pack with 19 nominations. The 60-year-old soap opera will compete in writing, directing and all acting categories for Daytime Drama Series.
CBS soap operas “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” landed 14 and 13 nominations, respectively. Meanwhile, NBC/Peacock’s long-running “Days of Our Lives” scored 11 nods for the Daytime Emmy Awards’ golden anniversary ceremony.
In the uber-competitive talk show categories, Kelly Clarkson’s eponymous series topped the list with 11 nominations. Joining Clarkson in the category of Daytime Talk Series Host are Drew Barrymore, Tamron Hall, Kelly Ripa and Sherri Shepherd.
Shepherd, who previously won an Emmy as a co-host on “The View,” has become a top-rated solo act since launching “Sherri!” last fall. The talk show also garnered nominations for costume design/styling, hairstyling and makeup, and for its signature promotional announcement, “Sherri: Fun. Joy. Laughter.”
“I am so excited to be nominated in four categories for the Daytime Emmy Awards,” the comedian and actress told the Us.Mistertruth on Wednesday. “When I started this show, my goal was to bring joy, laughter and inspiration to my viewers. To be celebrated by my peers in the business for bringing our ‘good time’ culture to daytime is the icing on the cake.”
Other notable nominations include Netflix’s “Down to Earth with Zac Efron” for Travel, Adventure and Nature Program, while Tony and Emmy nominee Danielle Brooks earned a nod for Daytime Program Host of Netflix’s “Instant Dream Home.”
In the food space, “Martha Cooks” on Roku and “Selena + Chef” on HBO Max are among the shows nominated for Culinary Series. Meanwhile, Kardea Brown, Ina Garten, Guy Fieri, Emeril Lagasse, Justin Sutherland and Andrew Zimmern are nominated for Culinary Host.
The Daytime Special category includes the 96th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, as well as “Extra: Cheslie Kryst 1991-2022″ about the Miss USA winner and ‘Extra’ correspondent who jumped to her death from a Midtown Manhattan high-rise last year.
The 2023 Daytime Emmy Awards are set to air on CBS and stream live on Paramount+ at 9 p.m. ET/PT on June 16.
