A Wilmington man made his first appearance in New Hanover District Court on Monday for allegedly being connected with the death of Micsha Durham, a 32-year-old woman from Jacksonville.
Altonio Herbert Johnson is being charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery after a homicide investigation by the Wilmington Police Department. He was ordered to remain in custody with no bond.
The court case is scheduled to continue on May 11 in felony district court. Johnson requested to have council through the court.
Durham’s body was found at E.P. Godwin Stadium on Shipyard Boulevard just before 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 11.
Before the case, Johnson was being held at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on an unrelated charge.
Debi Burnett, Durham’s mother, started a fundraiser for funeral and memorial expenses through a GoFundMe. On the page, she said two detectives from the police department told her about her daughter being stabbed to death in a bathroom at the stadium.
“I was still grieving over the death of my son who passed away Easter morning 2021,” Burnett stated on the page. “I have life insurance on myself because I never wanted my children to bear the burden of trying to come up the money to bury me. Never did I think they would die before me. I also never thought I would ask for help to bury my daughter.”
