A 24-year-old local man who was shot on April 9 on Dorchester Street has died from his injuries.
Around 1:23 a.m., police responded to 106 Dorchester St. for a report of gunshots. ShotSpotter indicated that six rounds had been fired at this location, according to the statement of facts.
Officers located a white Infiniti parked near Barclay and Dorchester streets with a gunshot victim in the front seat. Officers assisted the victim until paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital.
Around 1:39 a.m., police responded to a “known address” for another gunshot victim.
Izaiha Quintal, 20, of 5 Kenyon Ave., Apt. 1, told police he had been shot while on Ingleside Avenue, walking to the store. However, there was no ShotSpotter activation on Ingleside Avenue, despite it being a designated ShotSpotter zone, and no reports from area residents of gunshots. In addition, no ballistic evidence was located at or near where Quintal said the shooting occurred, according to the statement of facts.
Video evidence from Dorchester Street shows a white Infiniti stop next to another vehicle on Barclay Street. After a few seconds, the front passenger in the Infiniti begins shooting at the other vehicle, while the rear passenger in the other car returns fire and flees the area, according to the statement of facts.
The Infiniti remains parked on Barclay Street and the front and rear passengers are on the video are seen exiting the vehicle.
Quintal, who police believe to be the front passenger of the Infiniti, is a “known associate” of the victim, according to the statement of facts.
Quintal sustained injuries to his right leg and face, according to the statement of facts.
Police saw Quintal with the victim on April 1 and a “named and identified witness” told police that Quintal and the victim had been living together for about a week.
After an investigation, police arrested Quintal in connection with the shooting but not being the shooter who fatally killed the driver of the Infiniti in which Quintal was a passenger.
The person who is responsible for the first homicide of the year, as well as shooting Quintal, has not been arrested.
Quintal was charged with armed assault with intent to murder, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and misleading a police investigation.
When Quintal was arranged on April 10, Judge Nicole A. Colby Longton ruled in favor of Assistant District Attorney Tiffany A. Scanlon’s motion for the defendant being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.
At Quintal’s dangerousness hearing on Wednesday, Judge David P. Despotopulos ruled the defendant be committed to the Worcester County Jail and House of Correction without bail on dangerousness prior to trial for a period not to exceed 120 days.
