The co-founder and guitarist for Irish band The Script has died at age 46, according to bandmates.
“Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness,” the band tweeted Friday. “The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.”
The illness from which the rocker died was not immediately clear.
Sheehan formed The Script with his best friend, singer Danny O’Donoghue, in 2001. He was remembered on social media by his peers. Irish rockers Kodaline expressed grief over his passing and gratitude for the time they had with Sheehan.
“We had the great fortune of getting to spend time in his company over the years and was always such a lovely man!” they tweeted.
Brooklyn band American Authors tweeted, “Send you all our love.”
On Wednesday, just two days before Sheehan’s passing, The Script asked fans on Twitter what song they were most excited to hear the band play live. Their European tour has been scheduled to begin in June. The band’s hits include “Hall of Fame,” “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” and “If You Could See Me Now.”
