Des Moines police have found a material witness in the shooting at Starts Right Here that killed two teenagers and seriously injured the nonprofit’s founder.
Police issued a material witness warrant for an 18-year-old Des Moines resident in relation to the shooting. Police believed the witness had information important to the investigation into the deaths of Gionni Dameron and Rashard Carr, and the injury of president William Holmes, who goes by the stage name Will Keeps.
As of Thursday, Sgt. Paul Parizek said the witness has been located and he will not be facing charges in relation to the shooting.
Prosecutors have charged Preston Walls, 18, and Bravon Tukes, 19, with first-degree murder in the shooting Jan. 23rd at Starts Right Here, 455 S.W. Fifth St., near downtown Des Moines. Police identified Walls as the alleged shooter and Tukes as the alleged driver of the car in which Walls attempted to flee.
Starts Right Here is a nonprofit that provides mentorship and classes for at-risk youth. Police allege the shooting was gang-related.
