Modern maestro Jordan Peele’s cooking up some holiday horror for his next flick.
According to a report from The Wrap, the writer-director’s next mind-bender will be released on Christmas Day 2024.
No title, plot or cast details were revealed, but it wouldn’t be a shock if frequent collaborator Daniel Kaluuya ends up being involved with whatever spooky Christmas gift Peele has in mind.
Like Peele’s previously three films, “Get Out,” “Us” and “Nope,” the new one will be released by Universal Pictures. The studio will also release an untitled horror/thriller from Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions a few months prior on Sept. 27, 2024. The production company currently has three projects listed as “coming soon” on its website. Previous productions include Amazon’s “Hunters,” HBO’s “Lovecraft Country,” “BlacKkKlansman” and a remake of “Candyman.”
Peele has become something of a sure-thing in terms of critical acclaim and commercial success. All three of Peele’s feature releases have topped $170 million at the box office. “Get Out” netted four Oscar nominations, including a win for best original screenplay. He signed a five-year deal with Universal in 2019.
His fmilms’ scope and ambition have also grown with each subsequent release.
“[Going to see a movie in theaters] taught me to love film,” Peele Peel told The New York Times last year while doing press for “Nope.”
“So I just wanted to make a movie that people would have to go to the theater to see.”
Peele’s latest isn’t the only (likely) tentpole set for release around Christmas next year. “Avatar 3″ and a third entry in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise are also scheduled to duke it out at the holiday box office with releases slated a few days before Peele’s project. Earlier in March, Universal pushed the first half of its adaptation of Broadway musical “Wicked” to Thanksgiving 2024.
