Officers on Wednesday were investigating a break-in at the Sacramento Executive Airport, where one helicopter was started and crashed on the tarmac.
The break-in occurred at some point between 4 and 6 a.m. at the general aviation airport in the 6100 block of Freeport Boulevard. Officers received reports that someone broke into multiple helicopters on the tarmac, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
Police said one of the helicopters appeared to have been started and operated, resulting in the crash. Officers arrived at the airport and found the helicopter on its side with major damage including the shearing of the aircraft’s rotor blades.
Investigators on Wednesday did not have any information that indicated someone was injured in the crash. Police said officers did not have anyone in custody in connection with the break-in.
“This investigation is in its early stages,” police told The Sacramento Bee, “and this information is preliminary as detectives work to learn exactly what occurred.”
