The State Attorney’s Office for the Eighth Judicial Circuit announced on Wednesday the conviction and sentencing of a previously known sexual predator.
Donald Bryan McKee, 67, on Tuesday was sentenced to life in prison by Judge James M. Colaw on charges of lewd or lascivious molestation on a person under 12 years old and lewd exhibition as an offender over 18 years old.
The prosecution was led by Assistant State Attorney Ryan Nagel and the jury deliberated for just under two hours, a release from State Attorney’s Office said. The offenses occurred between September 2019 and September 2020.
Court records show a previous trial in the case in January ended in a mistrial when jurors were unable to reach a unanimous decision.
The Gainesville Police Department initially launched its investigation following a tip from the Gulfport Police Department.
McKee’s previous criminal offenses as recorded in Florida Ninth Judicial Circuit — Orange and Osceola counties — include convictions for sexual battery, DUI, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and robbery with a firearm.
