The Shreveport Police Department released new information on what happened Saturday evening that left a Texas teen dead near the Gemini Parade route.
On Saturday, Feb. 18, a Texan teen was shot and killed on Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway.
Just after 5:45 p.m. Shreveport police and fire were dispatched to the 2200 block of Clyde Fant on reports of shooting. Upon arrival, first responders discovered Kip Lewis, 17, of Marshall, Texas shot in the upper body.
Lewis was transported to Ochsner LSU Health and was pronounced dead at 6:17 p.m.
Shreveport police reported that through their ongoing investigation that Lewis and his friends came to Shreveport from Texas to enjoy the parade when they began to horseplay chasing one another around with plastic swords.
While playing a sixteen-year-old juvenile obtained a handgun and shot Lewis.
The juvenile suspect was detained on scene and the investigation into Lewis’ death is ongoing with the assistance of the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s office.
Lewis’ death marks the 11th homicide in Shreveport/Caddo Parish.
