Police are investigating a reported home invasion and an armed robbery within a 24-hour period this weekend.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday, police were called to 22 Whitford Ave., just off Smith Street in the city’s Elmhurst neighborhood, to investigate a robbery at knifepoint. The occupant told police he was inside his garage when he was approached by a man wearing a black ski mask and all-black clothing, who asked him for money and then struck him in the head with his closed fist when told to get off the property.
The victim handed over his wallet after the intruder brandished a pocket knife. The intruder then ran to the rear of the garage, towards Smith Street.
The victim was taken to the Roger Williams Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, according to a report from Maj. David Lapatin.
At approximately 4:40 a.m. on Saturday, police were called to 46 Lexington Ave., for a reported home invasion.
The victims told police that “4 to 5” males entered the home, tied them up using zip ties and held them at gunpoint for an hour then fled.
No further information was immediately available, and it is not yet clear if anything was taken.
