The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man who was sleeping early Sunday morning when a vehicle crashed into his home on Barth Drive in Green.
No one has been charged, though investigators suspect speed, narcotics and alcohol were factors in the crash. The driver of the vehicle, a 32-year-old woman, was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital by paramedics with the Green Fire Department.
The wreck happened at 2:40 a.m., sheriff’s Inspector Bill Holland said. The victim, a 69-year-old man, was asleep in his home, Holland said, when the driver of a 2010 Subaru lost control of her vehicle while traveling northbound on Mayfair Road.
The crash occurred a quarter-mile south of Raber Road, where the back of the victim’s home faces Mayfair Road.
Police investigators and the medical examiner’s office are not releasing the identity of the victim or driver. Holland said it could be a couple days before charges are determined in the case. The medial examiner’s officer said it was called to an address on Barth Drive that belongs to an owner-occupied home, according to county property records.
