Orlando police officers shot and killed a woman after she charged at them armed with two knives after threatening suicide in an apartment near Lake Nona, officials said Friday.
Police said the woman’s boyfriend called 911 after the woman threatened to kill herself and was armed with a knife.
Police said officers trained in crisis intervention responded to an apartment near 12000 Pioneer Way around 12:55 p.m.
Responders began crisis negotiation with the woman over the phone, and at one point officers said the woman walked out of the apartment holding the phone and a knife before going back inside.
Shortly after, police said the woman came out of the apartment again and charged at the officers while armed with two knives.
Police said two officers shot and her and she died on the scene.
Investigators said the officers did not have their Tasers in their hands at the time of the shooting.
This is the second time Orlando police were involved in a shooting this month. An officer shot and killed Derek Diaz in a parked car in downtown Orlando on July 3. Officers, in that case, said they approached Diaz because they suspected him of doing drugs.
