Deon Francis Guidry accepted a plea bargain Monday in the September 2019 fatal shooting of another man after a car chase that ended in an Alexandria neighborhood.
Guidry, 28, was indicted on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in the Sept. 23, 2019, shooting that killed 21-year-old Arturo Dontavius White and injured another man.
His trial was to be held this week, but Guidry pleaded to lesser charges of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter. He was sentenced to 18 years at hard labor by 9th Judicial District Court Judge Mary Lauve Doggett.
According to the Alexandria Police Department, there had been a dispute between the parties that began at another location. It continued as both parties left the location in different vehicles, and the shooting happened at the intersection of Welwyn Way and Wellington Boulevard.
White died at the scene. The other person in the car with him was wounded.
Guidry, a resident of Alexandria, was arrested hours later on a warrant that had been issued for him. A woman with him, Sharessia Lashae Mix, was arrested on the same charges.
She later was formally charged with two felony counts of being an accessory after the fact. Her case was placed on an indefinite hold in January 2022.
