Three victims of Monday night’s mass shooting on the Michigan State University campus in Lansing have been identified.
Eight people were shot, three fatally, after Anthony McRae, 43, allegedly started shooting at both Berkey Hall and the Student Union.
The three students who were killed died on campus. Four of the other five victims were taken to Sparrow Hospital and required surgery. They remain in critical condition.
McRae later died from a self-inflicted gunshot after escaping the campus.
“Absolutely no idea what the motive is at this point,” Michigan State Police Department’s interim Deputy Chief Chris Rozman. said Tuesday. The department later noted that a note was found on McRae.
Here’s what we know so far about the deceased students.
Alexandria Verner, 20
One of the deceased victims, junior Alexandria Verner, was mourned Tuesday by her former school district.
Verner was a “tremendous student, athlete, (and) leader,” Clawson Public Schools Superintendent Billy Shellenbarger said in a statement.
Verner graduated from Clawson High School in suburban Detroit in 2020 after attending several other schools in the district.
“Alex was and is incredibly loved by everyone. She was a tremendous student, athlete, leader and exemplified kindness every day of her life! Her parents, Ted and Nancy, and sister Charlotte and brother TJ are equally grieving but are certainly already feeling the uplifting support of this tremendous community. She started at Baker Preschool, moved on to Schalm Elementary School and finished at Clawson Middle and High School. If you knew her, you loved her and we will forever remember the lasting impact she has had on all of us,” the statement read.
Verner was set to graduate in 2024 with a double major in integrated biology and anthropology, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Brian Fraser, 20
Brian Fraser, a 20-year-old sophomore who graduated from Grosse Pointe South in suburban Detroit, was identified as the second victim by the Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety Police.
Fraser was studying business at the school and was head lifeguard at the Country Club of Detroit the summer before enrolling at MSU, according to his LinkedIn profile.
The Grosse Pointe Public School System superintendent Jon Dean said Tuesday two victims attended Grosse Pointe North and Grosse Pointe South high schools.
“Earlier this morning, I learned that both Grosse Pointe North and South each have a recent graduate who died from their injuries last night at MSU,” Dean said. “I can’t even process what I just wrote. How can we have our community impacted in this personal way?”
Arielle Diamond Anderson, 19
Arielle, a graduate of Grosse Pointe North High School, loved children and wanted to be a pediatrician, her family told 7 Action News.
London Charles, a.k.a. “Flavor of Love 2″ winner Deelishis and Anderson’s aunt, posted earlier on Instagram on Tuesday that her niece “was in her classroom in the same building as the active shooter and we have not heard from her.”
