Two Good Samaritans are being called “heroes” after saving a drowning man at Cummings Beach late Monday night, police say,
Stamford police said Carlos Manuel Escobar Bonilla and Luis Montano jumped in to save the man who was in distress in the Long Island Sound.
Police said Montano swam out 20 yards to save the man in distress.
Bonilla helped Montano pull the man out of the water and performed CPR, police said.
Police said after a minute of CPR, the unconscious man “began to cough and breathe on his own.”
Police said the man was transported to Stamford Hospital ICU and is expected to survive, police said.
According to the American Heart Association, CPR can double or triple someone’s chances of survival in an emergency situation.
