A truck collided with a train near Houston early Monday, killing the driver of the vehicle, authorities said.
The wreck occurred about 7:30 a.m. local time in East Montgomery County, derailing 16 train cars and leaving the truck seriously damaged, the East Montgomery County Fire Department said.
“Sadly the driver of this truck succumbed to injuries sustained in this wreck,” the fire department wrote on Facebook.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with that individual’s family. Currently units are still on scene and there is NO threat to the public from the derailed rail cars.”
Officials have not released the identity of the driver or said what caused the crash, which occurred along U.S. Route 59. Images shared by the fire department show several train cars off the rails.
Montgomery County is part of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area in Southeast Texas.
