An unidentified object was shot down Sunday over Lake Huron, marking the third such occurrence in North America since Friday, officials said.
U.S. Air Force and National Guard pilots took down the latest object, Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a Michigan Democrat, tweeted Sunday.
“Great work by all who carried out this mission both in the air and back at headquarters,” Slotkin wrote. “We’re all interested in exactly what this object was and it’s purpose. As long as these things keep traversing the US and Canada, I’ll continue to ask for Congress to get a full briefing based on our exploitation of the wreckage.”
Sunday’s incident comes after a U.S. fighter jet shot down an object flying about 40,000 feet above Alaska on Friday. That object was roughly the size of a small car, according to the White House National Security Council.
“It was a success,” President Biden said Friday.
A U.S. fighter jet then downed an object flying above the Yukon in Canada on Saturday. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Biden both gave orders to bring down the object.
Officials were trying to determine the origins of the objects.
On Feb. 4, U.S. Air Force fighter jets shot down what was suspected to be a Chinese surveillance balloon flying over the Atlantic Ocean near the South Carolina coast. The balloon was said to be about the size of three school buses.
