Rihanna changed her tune after giving birth to her first child.
The pop star says she’s more selective about the projects she accepts now that she’s a mother, citing her Super Bowl halftime show performance and her song “Lift Me Up” for the movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” as being “worth it.”
“Getting back to anything right now has to feel worth it because once you have a child, nothing seems worth it,” Rihanna said on Sunday’s debut episode of the podcast “The Process with Nate Burleson.”
“Nothing is, like, worthy of your time away from your kid, so I was very careful in the things that I said yes to,” she continued. “Super Bowl was one of them. ‘Wakanda Forever’ was the first thing that got me out of the house.”
Rihanna and rapper A$AP Rocky welcomed their son last May. Rihanna co-wrote and performed “Lift Me Up,” which is nominated for best original song at next month’s Academy Awards. It’s the first Oscar nomination for Rihanna, who says she’s never been to the award show.
Known for hits such as “We Found Love” and “Umbrella,” the Grammy-winning Rihanna, 34, last toured in 2016.
She says she drew inspiration from Beyoncé’s Super Bowl performances in 2013 and 2016 before she headlines her own halftime show at Sunday’s Super Bowl LVII between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
“I watched Beyoncé’s halftime performances a couple times,” Rihanna said. “She’s a beast and a whole other level.”
