After settling countless paternity disputes on air on his syndicated talk show “Maury,” TV personality Maury Povich is now letting fans determine the paternity of their babies in the comfort of their own homes.
Povich, 84, is launching a DNA testing company offering at-home paternity tests, according to TMZ. And the name of the company is one of his catchphrases from his self-named talk show: “The Results Are In.”
The company says the tests, which come with instructions and all the necessary materials, have a 99.99% accuracy rate and offer results in two to three business days.
“I’ve seen firsthand how DNA testing can change lives and bring families together,” Povich says in a statement to the outlet. “With ‘The Results Are In,’ we’re making it easier and more affordable than ever before for people to get the answers they need.”
On Instagram, Povich lists himself as the CEO of “You Are NOT the Father,” another of his catchphrases. He has also been sharing clips of paternity-themed segments from his talk show.
Povich, husband of former CBS News anchor Connie Chung, ended “Maury” after 31 seasons last year. In a postmortem with the Los Angeles Times, the host explained his goal with his many on-air paternity tests, rebuffing criticisms that he exploited the show’s guests.
“If I can prove someone is the father of this child, that child will have a better chance in life with two people, two parents,” he said. “I bring these guests back 15 years later and find out that the guy did get into the kid’s life, got together with the mother and they had more kids and the child ended up with a good job. There are a lot of good endings with these stories.”
