Bethenny Frankel didn’t pull any punches when she weighed in on the saga of the submersible that went missing during a voyage to explore the Titanic wreckage — an endeavor that ended with five people presumed dead.
The former “Real Housewives of New York City” star called the decision to go on a deep sea mission to explore the Titanic wreckage a “bad idea.”
“Who gets into a submarine that’s not Jacques Cousteau?” she said on Instagram Wednesday. “You want to be adventurous? Drink four margaritas and see what happens. Try a bathing suit on without your underwear, go to Burning Man dressed as a parakeet, I don’t know.”
“But going on a submarine, jumping out of airplanes, riding motorcycles, swimming with sharks — all of these things seem like a bad idea,” the Skinnygirl margarita mogul continued.
British billionaire Hamish Harding was among an elite group of passengers on a submersible craft, nicknamed the Titan, which went missingon Sunday.
On Thursday, the Coast Guard confirmed debris found on the ocean floor are in fact pieces of the deep-diving vessel and that evidence indicated a “catastrophic implosion” that nobody could have survived.
“This tragedy is sad but, most importantly, unnecessary and entirely avoidable,” Frankel wrote in follow-up post Thursday afternoon. “Life is precious… we can’t play games with it. Cautionary risks are ok…w recklessness is not.”
Before the tragic news became public knowledge, other celebrity notables shared their thoughts.
Joy Behar, co-host of “The View,” shared a similar sentiment during the Hot Topics segment of Wednesday’s broadcast.
“It’s interesting because the Titanic itself went down because of human incompetence and stupidity on the part of, according to the movies, hubris, and the same with this,” the 80-year-old comedienne said. “That’s the irony of it. They’re going to see the same thing is happening to them. It’s very sad and scary.”
Donald Trump, Jr. wasn’t a fan of the idea, either.
“Literally everything I’ve seen about this missing submarine is insane and sketchy AF… almost none of it makes any sense whatsoever,” he tweeted.
Actor John Cusack was critical of the hoopla surrounding the search.
“All I can think is refugees capsize no one cares – some billionaires on joy rides go missing – it seems like multiple navy’s are instantly searching,” the “Better Off Dead‘’ star tweeted on Tuesday.
