Millennials will get a dose of mid-aughts nostalgia on July 27 with the release of “Zoey 102,” a follow-up to the Nickelodeon teen sitcom “Zoey 101.” Paramount+ dropped a trailer for the TV movie on Tuesday.
“Zoey 101,” which ran from 2005 to 2008, starred Jamie Lynn Spears, younger sister of Britney, as Zoey Brooks, a member of the inaugural co-ed class of the prestigious Pacific Coast Academy.
The Emmy-nominated series aired for four seasons, the last of which was mired in controversy after a then-16-year-old Spears announced she was pregnant with her first child.
In “Zoey 102,” Spears will play an adult Zoey who is “still trying to figure out life and love,” Paramount+ describes.
Along for the ride are original stars Erin Sanders as best friend Quinn Pensky, Sean Flynn as ex-boyfriend Chase Matthews, Matthew Underwood as Hollywood heir Logan Reese, Christopher Massey as the humorous Michael Barret, Abby Wilde as the artsy Stacey Dillsen, and Jack Salvatore as Quinn’s ex Mark Del Figgalo.
As Paramount+ explains, a Malibu wedding gets the gang back together more than a decade after the events of the series finale.
“Zoey and Chase did not end up in Hawaii that summer and haven’t heard from each other since,” the streaming service says. “When close friends Quinn and Logan announce they’re getting married, Zoey and Chase find themselves in the wedding party.”
New cast members include Thomas Lennon (“Reno 911!”) as Zoey’s boss, Kelly Kevyn; Owen Thiele (“Dollface”) as her friend Archer March; Dean Geyer (“Glee”) as charismatic actor Todd; Audrey Whitby (“The Thundermans”) as Logan’s younger sister, Lyric; and Zach Zagoria (“Prince of Peoria”) as Jordan B., a reality dating show contestant with whom Zoey must work.
Monica Sherer and Madeline Whitby penned the “Zoey 102″ script, and Nancy Hower directed the movie.
