A medical examiner determined that alcohol consumption led to the death of “Days of Our Lives” alum Cody Longo earlier this year.
The autopsy report cited by TMZ lists Longo’s cause of death as “chronic ethanol abuse” and notes that the manner of his death was natural. The report also says that the actor’s body was found in a state of decomposition with alcohol bottles nearby.
Longo was found dead in a residence in Austin, Texas, in February after his wife, Stephanie, asked police to check on him, as TMZ reported at the time.
A family member told the site that Longo had long struggled with alcohol abuse and had checked into rehab the previous summer. Longo also took a plea deal for a DUI case in 2013 and was ordered to attend alcohol education classes, TMZ adds.
The actor shared three young children with Stephanie, according to People. “Cody was our whole world,” Stephanie told the magazine following his death. “The kids and I are shattered and beyond devastated. He was the best dad and best father. We will always and forever miss you and love you.”
Longo played Nicholas Alamain on “Days” in 2011, and he was also known for starring as Eddie Duran in the 2012 Nick at Night drama “Hollywood Heights.”
His other TV credits in the early to mid-2010s included roles on the TV shows “Make It or Break It,” “CSI: NY,” “Nashville,” and “Secrets and Lies.”
“[Longo] had taken some time away from acting to pursue music and spend more time with his family in Nashville, but we had kept in touch regularly and he was excited to get back into acting this year,” Alex Gittelson, Longo’s manager, told People. “Cody was such a loyal, loving and talented person, and he will be greatly missed.”
