A pair of Americans were found dead this week at a hotel in Baja California, Mexico, according to local authorities.
John Heathco, 41, and Abby Lutz, 22, died of “intoxication by substance to be determined,” the Baja California Sur Attorney General’s Office told ABC News.
They had been dead for at least 10 hours when their bodies were discovered Tuesday inside their room at the Hotel Rancho Pescadero in Baja California Sur, according to the attorney general’s office, which said there was no indication of violence.
Local officials said Lutz was from Newport Beach, Calif. It’s unclear where Heathco was from.
Both Americans were dead by the time paramedics responded to a report of unconscious people in the room, police said. Gas inhalation is reportedly their suspected cause of death.
American authorities say they are aware of the situation.
Their deaths occurred less than a year after three Americans were found dead in Mexico City from what officials said was likely carbon monoxide poisoning. The bodies of Kandace Florence, 28, Jordan Marshall, 28, and Courtez Hall, 33, were discovered inside an Airbnb rental in October.
